Best Way To Get Cialis Pills - Buy Tadalafil Online! Would it help if you gave her anecdotes of other patients who have done well with the vaccine? Obviously, that’s not how you all make decisions (for very good reasons) but a lot of lay people rely on that sort of thing. I don’t have GB, but a neurological condition often initially misdiagnosed as GB. I know dozens of people with neuro disease, myself included who got vaccinated and boosted with no worse symptoms than a sore arm and feeling crummy for one day.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an exceedingly rare side effect of vaccinations and infections. She's more likely to get an MI, stroke or die from Covid-19 than ever getting Guillain-Barré syndrome. One of the things this pandemic has exposed is the fact that people are really bad at abstract thinking and risk assessment. Just because an extremely small risk of getting Guillain-Barré after vaccination exists that doesn't mean that it's something people should concern themselves with unless they work with vaccine safety or public health issues. If you can't convince her of that then it doesn't matter how many numbers and statistics you throw at her.

Yeah, that's tough. I would explain it using the risks of covid as the baseline, and then explain that via vaccination, you are lowering your risk overall. Covid is so contagious now that it's incredibly difficult to avoid it forever, and so the only option is to decide whether it would be healthier to get sick with covid, or prevent that through vaccination (which should be a no-brainer)

GBS shouldn't from a pure risk benefit perspective be her primary concern. If she has had GBS before she may or may not have a higher chance of getting it again. But even if her risk is increased 100x then her odds with vaccination would be 100-500/100,000 or 1-5/1000. Lets use 5/1000. Then she is adding a 5/1000 excess risk by getting vaccinated and sparing herslf from the excess COVID risk - OP has said she is older so it may be higher than this but lets use 1% infection fatality rate for her being unvaccinated (10/1000) and underestimate the benefit of vaccination at 90% reduction in infection fatality rate. (And assume a 100% chance of gettig COVID)

And lets also assume that GBS recurence is an equal severity outcome to death. So even with these numbers that are almost certainly less favorable to vaccination than reality she should get vaccinated, she is taking on a 5/1000 risk of GBS to spare herself 9/1000 risk of death from COVID.

Anecdotal, but there was a 20s ish person at my hospital on ecmo for covid. Didn’t get vaccinated bc of previous GBS from flu shot. Also I have a coworker who was very concerned to get the covid shot bc she also had GBS (she’s medically exempted from annual flu shots) - ended up getting x2 Pfizer and did just fine.

There are still some PCPs who are telling patients with a history of GBS not to get vaccinated. My coworker has a family member who is not antivax at all and extremely careful about COVID, but genuinely believes that she "can't get vaccinated" because she had a severe case of GBS after a flu shot as a toddler, and her trusted family doctor apparently advised against it. The rest of the family believes the doctor.

I am a neurologist with fellowship training in neuromuscular disease. This comes up all the time. Most of my post-GBS patients do not like my advice which is to go ahead and get the shot. As others have said, GBS is sometimes seen after COVID-19, but so far we have not seen increased rates of GBS after vaccination against COVID-19.
